Venice - The Sinking City Day 1

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Venice is small and I like Venice. With water everywhere and the quaint buildings, Venice is a magical island. I guess you can finish exploring the sights from head to tail, in about an hour. Nearly all of the sightseeing is within a 20-minute walk of the Rialto Bridge or St. Mark's Square. We took our time, strolling along and enjoying every moment of rustic Venice.

Simply love walking in Venice

In Venice, it's a sin to miss the romantic Gondolas ride. Fares are pretty much standard but you can still negotiate. As Jason and myself took Gondola ride 10 years back when we were in Venice. I remembered the sailor even sang in his beautiful voice as we ride in the Gondola. This time, we decide to give it a miss and walk around while the rest went for their rides.

How beautiful these canals were

  The famous Railto Bridge

Glanced this beautiful St Mark's clock at Piazza San Marco. I only found out later that people can ventured into the clock tower. A little bit of history obtained from Wiki, "The clock was created by clockmaker Gian Carlo Rainieri in 1499. Rainieri then moved into the tower and was paid to keep the clock running and accurate. When he died a number of people of varying skill levels succeeded him, and after two hundred and fifty years the clock was in bad shape. So in 1752 Bartolomeo Ferracina, a reknown clockmaker, was hired to refurbish the clock."

At Piazza San Marco, one of the most famous Venice's landmarks. Did you spot the grand St Mark's Church. We spotted a number of couples taking their wedding pictures!

Simply Majestic
Shopping is in our blood! While strolling on this romantic island, I was ecstatic to find my GST bag here! Was disappointed big time when there was no stock in Paris! In Singapore it's at $3900. And in Venice, I got it at 1750 euro haven't minus the tax rebate! Ooooh Woohooo! You count the whopping gain!

This was just small fry. My other buddies spent hours at Rolex and eventually lugged 4 Rolex back. Ahhh...satisfied!

What a great day to end Venice Day 1.
